New York Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the player will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during a recent discussion.

“What reassures me, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn commented. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he will come through this without issue.”

The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he is reported as serious yet stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” he added. “But I will say this, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. And again, that puts my mind at ease, given his positive frame of mind and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD issued surveillance images Monday of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt were reported.

The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday in the area between the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was transported to a local hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a child.

“My initial concern, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, I’m thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd hasn’t played during the current season, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation.

He joined the Jets as a free agent in spring and was expected to be a key part of an improved special teams group under the coach and ST coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on August 2 and was carted from the field.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. He’s fully engaged. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in last year and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
