The Egyptian star Hailed as a Top Professional After Being Dropped - Liverpool Boss

Mohamed Salah in Liverpool training
Salah had started fifty-three consecutive Premier League matches prior to being named on the bench against West Ham.

Reds head coach Arne Slot lauded forward Mohamed Salah for his exemplary conduct following his left out of the starting lineup.

The move was made after a string of defeats of nine unsuccessful results in twelve outings across every tournament.

It represented the first time Salah had been left out of a top-flight starting XI since the spring of 2024, under Slot's predecessor, Jurgen Klopp.

The Egyptian icon, last season's Premier League Golden Boot winner, has managed only four times in the Premier League during the current campaign.

Slot acknowledged it was a "safe bet" that Salah was displeased about being an unused substitute at London Stadium.

"That's a typical response from a player of his caliber to play for us, and I say that mildly because he has been incredibly influential for this club for such a long time and will continue to be for the future," the manager stated.

"Others felt the same who felt let down that he didn't begin the game and that is normal."

Slot added that Salah "responded in a mature manner" despite being dropped.

"He maintains incredible discipline - he knows what to do to stay fit," the coach pointed out.

"No matter if he has a good game or a bad one, whether he's selected or not, he will always be that model professional and that's what he was in the last two days.

"For every footballer everywhere, there are also stages in your time at a club where they show humanity. He's scored so many goals for us and I am confident he will in the future."

Afcon Commitment Approaches

Slot confirmed that Liverpool will be lacking Salah's services from 15 December, when he heads off to the Afcon tournament.

"We must find a way to play without him because he won't be here," Slot concluded.

Presently, the defending champions sit outside the European places, nine points behind the front-running Gunners.

They face Sunderland on Wednesday ahead of Saturday's trip to Leeds, a side who find themselves in the relegation zone.

Assessment: Salah's Absence

If the schedule holds, Salah's last Liverpool game is expected to be the mid-December fixture against Brighton.

If the Pharaohs go all the way, then Salah would not return until January 19th at the earliest.

Such a situation would see him absent for seven games, including a key match against Arsenal on the road on January 8th.

Slot did not confirm whether he would omit Salah again over the immediate future, he did admit the player was disappointed after the bench role at London Stadium.
