The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Chose the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Song

This latest animated series, the newest animated series by Critical Role, revealed a new opening credits. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and criminals kicking ass and making their mark, while also hinting at several heart-wrenching backstories for characters including Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.

All in all, the opening looks amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the song choice.

This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional composition created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. It's a track from the official score of that title, the second one released by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a great nostalgic choice, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will love its presence.

Personally, The series' opening fails to capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was first revealed in 2015, and it only got better when cast member Sam Riegel wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the song was catchy and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The show's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the right notes in my opinion. It's a grand piece of music, but from what I know of the group, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.

Naturally, the creators has stated that the animated show will have some changes and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its opening seems to be one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be released on Prime Video from November 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the characters of the second series, the original episodes are available on the audio platform and YouTube.
