The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
