Toronto Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Matchup Versus Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer previously helped the Houston Astros claiming the championship in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their initial Fall Classic following 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the American League Championship Series.

Behind by two runs, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning, propelling the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 triumph in the series. Next up are the Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the forthcoming World Series.

"I'm thrilled for our team, Toronto, our country," commented Springer, a key player of the Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "What an unbelievable moment."

The veteran has now connected for 23 total playoff homers, making him third all-time after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"I can't think of another player in the world that I'd choose in that situation besides George Springer with his playoff prowess," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, after leading the early in the series, remain the one club never to appear in a championship series.

Wilson said "there's no question that it's painful" in the wake of his team's loss at their home ballpark, but praised their performance throughout the year.

"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we ended up on the wrong side of this game," he continued.

Toronto won the title on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the opener on Friday.
