Triple National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic endured a "heartbreaking" injury to his knee as the Nuggets lost 147-123 at the Miami Heat.
The star player injured himself towards the end of the second quarter following an inadvertent contact with teammate Spencer Jones.
The other player landed on the footwear of the big man, who instantly fell to the ground grabbing his leg.
The veteran player, that tops the NBA season in rebounds and dimes, posted a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup before sustaining the problem.
Jokic is scheduled for an MRI scan on Tuesday to determine the severity of the issue.
"Right away, he knew something was wrong," commented Nuggets head coach Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Any player that suffers an injury, that's gut-wrenching, particularly somebody as special as Jokic. We will know more on Tuesday."
"The team will adjust together. Clearly, at this moment, I'm more worried about Jokic personally and the disappointment of going through a situation of that nature."
